WHY NOT A CONCRETE POOL
Once cracked never 100% repairable – costly to repair.
Not suitable for all ground surfaces.
Maintenance cost very high (use lots of expensive chemicals) takes longer to clean especially brushing.
Pool temperature lower because of concrete walls.
A Concrete pool is not flexible, steelwork rust, lost strength yearly! Cannot absorb ground movement.
Needs regular acid washing and resurfacing either with marbleize or a pool paint that don’t last.
Pool surface stains easily and black and green algae can grow into the pool surface Installation of a concrete pool is 4 times longer.
Concrete pools cannot be relocated and therefore not old if not needed.
Surface of a concrete pool is not smooth it is rough and causes damage to your skin especially children’s feet and toes.
Concrete pools are expensive to build and maintain.
INSTALLING YOUR OWN FIBERGLASS POOL
HOW TO GO ABOUT:
Choose a site for your pool, it must be as level as possible as you do not want the extra expense of building retained walls.
Also avoid rocky terrain, as digging here may require hiring of expensive machines. Make sure your pool will be clear of existing sewer and water pipelines, or buried service cables, it can be moved but at a price.
Check the surroundings to determine how the pool shell can be delivered to the site also keep in mind that the excavated soil must go somewhere, so find a suitable dumping spot or cart it away.
Contact the local municipality to find out if you need special permission for a pool on your property, and what plans must be submitted.
Please see the installation guide for more details.
MAINTENANCE ON A SWIMMING POOL
Three golden rules to maintain a healthy swimming pool
1. Water balance
Ph balance of a fiberglass pool is 7.0 (marble pools 7.2 – 7.4)
Chlorine 1 – 3 ppm
Alkalinity 80 – 120 ppm
Calcium 250 ppm
2. Correct filtration
Correct filtration is achieved by the correct size and pump, clean filter habits (back wash and clean filter sand) Time setting for the filtration period of at least 12 hours in summer day time from 6 am to 6 pm. Filter sand must changed after 5 years, filter sand must be cleaned in the beginning of every swimming season by using filter cleaning liquid and a open back wash.
3. Correct circulation
Make sure that the aim flow and the weir are installed in the correct places so no dead spots cure, for circulation. No suction leaks for maximum circulation.
Recommended chemicals to use
Month mate pool floater sufficient for fiberglass pools
When changing filter sand, close brewer pipe, put lid screws in holes before adding the sand, open the brewer pipe after filling. Back wash and rinse before filtering.
When a filter system is installed (pump & filter) it must be on the same level as the water level of the pool to be working without hassle.
Suction leaks cause the automatic cleaner to stop and go very slowly. The reason 9 out of 10 is because air that leaks through the fitting and pipe connection at the weir (start there!) suction leaks only acquire from the head of the automatic pool cleaner to the front part of the pump.
Tests for a leak – put the control key (multiport valve) by pass (circulation) see if it works or not (no block in the filter).
Go to the weir, block the hole with your hand for 10 seconds, see if bubbles came out of the aim flow, if so there is a suction leak, and then repair pipes. If no bubbles see if pipe is not blocked, suction pipes and the return. If not replace pump.
Test water once a week for ph level, backwash and rinse once a week. Backwash for 2 minutes and rinse for 30 seconds or until inspection glass is clear.
Top pool with water, keep chlorine level 1 – 3 ppm, Ph 7.0 fiberglass or 7.2 – 7.4 marblite.
Function of a filter
The top port – multiport valve can turn any position, clockwise or anti-clockwise, but only when pump is off.
Filter: is for the normal filtering of water, to trap dirt and give clarity to the pool water.
Close function: to block air to the system when you need to open the lid of the pool pump.
Backwash function: to clean the filter sand at least once a week or when suction strength drops.
Rinse: is to clear milky water after backwash, until inspection glass is clear
By pass: is when the water is flowing directly from the weir to the aim flow skipping the filter, used when liquid chemicals are applied in the pool water.
Waste: this function also bypasses the filter and through water directly from the pool to the draining pipe of the pool, used when pool water is cleaned, when there is sand, etc. in pool.
